Babies. There always seems to be some challenge. First was premature birth, then jaundice, then hip dysplasia and now gas/blood in the stool. I am trying to breastfeed, but he doesn’t latch consistently or should I say consistently well, so I am following my Exclusive Pumping schedule I had with Pumpkin. Which means I am pumping every 2-3 hours. Luckily, I have a pretty good supply so that’s not an issue this time around.
But Patch has had major gas problems since I can remember. We only get a couple hours of sleep a night because of it. He’ll sleep for an hour and then grunt and push for another hour or so and then sleep another hour. Our pediatrician tested his stool and he had some blood in his stool. I was horrified. I started the dairy elimination diet (and most of all no chocolate and no Starbucks). He started to get better and there was no blood in his last test. In the last two days, we have finally slept in two hour groups which we attribute to the diet.
At today’s two month checkup we found out the blood is back. This means that something I ate recently could have made it worse again. Maybe it was the Starbucks because I added that back in with coconut milk. So this upcoming week I am forgoing my favorite drink and any sugary foods along with dairy. Then I’ll test Patch again on Friday and hopefully the blood will be gone. If not, I’ll have to go on extreme elimination diet.
Any moms out there deal with this before? Anyone have grunters? This is so new to me as Pumpkin slept through the night easily. But even if he’s not pushing, he grunts all night. I can’t sleep because I keep thinking it means he’s awake or needs something. I learned in Mommy and Me that babies need 15 hours of sleep a day…no way. He’s not making that at all. I have no idea what to do and it’s getting close to survival mode if he doesn’t learn to sleep soon. Any suggestions?
